Carry forward tuition usage

I have carry forward tuition from previous years. I realize that Turbo Tax uses it to bring my tax payment to zero but in my case it is using it all and giving me a huge refund amount. I don’t want such a huge refund and would like to save some tuition for next years taxes. How can I override the amount it is using?  I am using turbo tax 2022 on-line for the first time and find it really frustrating to see or change anything.

Hi

Unfortunately you can't, and if you override the amount, CRA will adjust your return. You have to claim your carry forward amount in the first year that you have to pay income tax.

Please, check this CRA link for confirmation: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/line-32300-your-tuition-education-textbook-amounts/transferring-carrying-forward-amounts.html

A professional advice would be to contribute the refund you will get this year in an RRSP plan but not deduct them on the same year. You can carry forward the RRSP contributions and claim them whenever you wish.
