I'm married and received this error. Does this mean that if I'm married I cannot claim the disability amount for my child?
"You cannot claim the amount for an eligible dependant (equivalent to spouse) because your marital status was married or common-law for all of 2023. If your marital status changed during the year, enter the date of change; Otherwise, remove the amount for an eligible dependant."
Unfortunately, you can not claim eligible dependent.
As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), you can only claim the tax credit for an eligible dependent if you meet all of the following criteria at the same time during the tax year:
However, it is possible for you to claim a transferred disability tax credit if your dependant is eligible for the disability tax credit (DTC) and does not need to claim all or part of the disability amount on their tax return (on line 31600) to reduce their income tax, they may transfer it to you. This would allow you to claim all or part of the disability amount on your tax return on line 31800.
