Elligable Dependent

My daughter who is 67 and disabled and has always lived with me and been my dependant. She moved into a group home, can she still be classed as my dependant? Her pension pays for her shelter, food, and care. I still look after her medical equipment, drug costs, clothing and her other personal needs. I was told that she could still be classed as my dependant for income tax purposes. In 2018 I did not class her as a dependant and I'd like to know if I could can I go back and refile for that year? I am  turbo tax user and did go back and change our files.

Let me know .

Thanks, Marion Fennell

To qualify as a caregiver the dependent must be living with you as per CRA guideline. Unfortunately, you will not be able to claim caregiver credit though you are responsibly for her medical and other living expenses.
