Error 90308 When Trying to use NETFILE

So I've completed my return, TurboTax did not seem to find any errors and said I was good to go and file my return. I paid the fee to file mine and my spouse's returns, go to submit everything and I get error code 90308 which seems to be an issue with the CPP contributions in my T4 compared to the contributions in the actual return being submitted.

Basically what the error is telling me is that lines 30800, 22215 and 44800 are supposed to add up to lines 50340 and 50341 (boxes 16 and 16A on all my T4s, and I only have one T4). When I look at the summary of my return, 30800, 22215 and 44800 add up to box 16 on my T4 and so it seems that 16A isn't being added to the right line on my return (Line 22215 according to my T4).

Two calls to TurboTax and I was once referred to the IRS to try and solve my issue (I'm in Canada) and the second time they tried to be a bit more helpful but still ended up telling me it was a CRA issue and to contact them to solve it. My frustration is that it seems this is clearly not a CRA issue. The CRA won't accept the return because either I'm making a mistake somewhere that both TurboTax customer support and myself can't see, or there is an issue with the software not putting the right information in the right lines.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any advice on what I might be doing wrong? Or do I have this all right and this is a TurboTax issue?

The CRA has announced systems tax calculator errors that may affect your ability to file. These errors are affecting all CRA certified tax software across Canada.

TurboTax is in direct contact with senior Government of Canada officials at CRA, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and decisive action to resolve these issues for our customers and all Canadians.

If you see one of these error codes, please visit What does my NETFILE error code mean and how do I fix it?

Thanks for the reply! I don't think think any of these solutions help me though. I've added a picture of the error message I got to help clarify my issue.

I live in Ontario, worked only in Ontario in 2024 and I only have one T4 to enter. The issue I'm having seems to be 1a  from the error message. Lines 30800, 22215 and 44800 in the return that TurboTax is generating are not adding up to boxes 16 and 16A from my T4. They add up perfectly to just box 16, so I'm assuming that TurboTax isn't adding box 16A to the right line in my return. 16A is CPP2 contributions, which as far as I know is a new addition to the tax code as of January 2024.

Hey, were you able to find a solution? I am facing the same issue and reached out to TurboTax support a couple of times to get the exact same response. I know this is not a CRA issue and they are not able to help. I was told on Monday that this will be resolved in a few days but so far, no luck.

I ended up trying Wealthsimple instead at the advice of someone in another thread. Sounds like people were having the same issue with WS but their customer support was more helpful and they were able to fix the bug in their software. I think there are still some people having similar issues with CPP and QPP, but the specific issue I had was fixed when I tried the the other day.

Hope that helps!

Sounds good! Did they give any indication on whether this particular issue was fixed just for your particular case or the fix was applied generally to their entire platform?

I never actually spoke to WS customer support myself, that’s just what I read on here, so I honestly don’t have any idea. I just tried filling out my return there for fun, checked the forms and the numbers were all matching up properly. So I sent it in and it worked.

Wealthsimple also lets you file for free if you fill out a feedback text field so as long as you still have NETFILE attempts left there’s no harm in trying it out. With TurboTax I didn’t find out about the issue until after I already paid, so now I’m waiting on a refund.

Hello, I am having the exact problem when I'm filling my tax return. When you said that the specific issue was fixed, did you change anything or you just tried to re-submit it again at a different day?

The only difference was using Wealthsimple instead of TurboTax. I tried filing the first time with TT on March 2nd, called customer support a couple times with no luck. I tried restarting a return and sending it in one more time on March 6th and it still didn’t work. Then I went to Wealthsimple, didn’t change anything with how I filled it out, refund was just about identical but 16A was being properly applied this time in the Schedule 8 form and all the numbers matched up.

This is currently a known issue with CRA.

"The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is aware of this issue and has advised that this error occurs on T1 returns with an amount on line 22200 and no amount on line 31000, where the taxpayer has over $68,500 in pensionable earnings.
The CRA is actively working on resolution."

@MattK3 Please follow these steps: User Fix steps: Review T4 slip:

  1. If box 10 indicates Quebec as the province of employment: Verify that boxes 16 and 16A are empty.
  2. If box 10 indicates a province other than Quebec: Verify that boxes 17 and 17A are empty.

I am having the same issue and I have verified the information I've entered is in the correct positions.

That's how mine is entered.  I reviewed my T4 online with a live agent and everything is entered correctly.

As I have said I filled out everything in the correct positions. Box 10 is not Quebec so I entered my information for box 16 and 16A.

Box 17 and 17A are blank. But the error still persists.

Do you know when this issue is expected to be fixed?  I just tried filing again (first tried 2 weeks ago) and got the error 90308 again.  Province of employment not Quebec and boxes 16 and 16A filled out (17 and 17A blank).  I called TurboTax support when I first got the error 2 weeks ago and was told it should be fixed within a week.

I have issues with having amounts in box 16 and 16a too. Was your issue resolved?

Any resolution to this issue? Will Turbo Tax just refund us so we can file somewhere else if this issue hasn't been resolved for the past three weeks?

Thank you for your response, but according to this thread it has been three weeks of you working on this issue. I need to file my taxes on time. Will Turbo Tax refund me so I can try to file them somewhere else or will this issue be resolved in the next couple of days?
