Message from the CRA:
CRA Result Code: 84
#95005 - One of the following situations applies to your return. Please verify your entries and make the necessary corrections.
1. Your return has a date of entry indicating that you were an immigrant to Canada, or a date of departure indicating that you were an emigrant. To accurately calculate your world income, the Canada Revenue Agency needs to know your Canadian sourced and your foreign sourced income earned when you were not a resident of Canada. If these net incomes are zero, indicate this on your return as instructed by your software.
2. You have reported an amount for Canadian sourced and/or foreign sourced income earned when you were not a resident of Canada. To indicate you were an immigrant to Canada, or an emigrant, you must enter a date of entry or a date of departure in your software. Otherwise, remove these amounts of income from your return.
3. The year in the immigration or emigration date on your return does not equal to the current tax year. You can only report this date on your return if you immigrated or emigrated in the current tax year.Your tax return has not been accepted by the Canada Revenue Agency. It contains errors that must be corrected. Please review the following error(s), make the necessary corrections, and try resubmitting your return. For forms or additional information, visit the Canada Revenue Agency website and the Corrections page on the NETFILE website. For further assistance, please contact us.
Please make sure to check if you are using any locked forms that might be preventing to Netfile.
Thanks for choosing TurboTax.
Following. Had this same issue can't find a solution as of right now.
1. Did you immigrate to Canada or migrate? If yes, please be sure to enter the appropriate dates
2. Enter your income source when you were not a resident of Canada. If you had no income, make sure to enter zero.
3. If you are completing your tax return for year 2024 and have not come into the country or left Canada in 2024, then the information about did you migrate or immigrate does not apply to you for tax year 2024. You will need to go and remove it.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Also getting this message and am unclear about how to fix it in turbotax. From my perspective, I have entered all information accurately and can't find the form if more info is needed.
I came back to Canada part way through 2024 (November 2024) and have input my date of return, my canadian source income while a non-resident, and my worldwide income while a non-resident.
Our development them is working on resolving this issue, but we don't have a resolution date yet.
We appreciate your patience.
Good to know. I will wait for resolution. How will I know when the issue has been resolved? Will there be a response to this thread?
I am also getting same message.. Customer care just simply said i could not do NETFILE due to the first time filing. Not right.
It looks like Turbotax is fixing the issue for individuals returning to Canada; however, it is a CRA rule that first-time filers need to submit their first return by mail (paperfile). An account needs to be set up and verified in the system before electronic returns can be received.
Where does it say you have to file first time by paper only ? I cant see anything related to that online
My bad, does look like you can file if you already have all the info you need setup on the CRA system. Maybe you are in the same boat as those of us returning to Canada with just the added hiccup that you don't have a Netfile code for verification.
@Shadypie95 If you're filing your return for the first time and you want to file it using NETFILE, there is a possibility your return might be rejected by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), if they don't have your complete date of birth on file or if your personal information doesn't match what's in their database.
For more information please contact CRA directly.
I'm using weathsimple but it seems it's a common mistake and 100s of people are experiencing this. We are waiting for a patch to be fixed even CRA dont know how to sort it at the moment
@Shadypie95 That is correct. Our development team is working on resolving this issue, but we don't have a resolution date yet. We appreciate your patience.
Any updates on this? Paid $200 for the TurboTax services for my wife and myself, software bugged and can’t file still.
yeah - same here, didn't come across such error last time when I filed for first time filers.
@ajkaur95 Our development team is working on resolving this issue, but we don't have a resolution date yet. We appreciate your patience.
Would this issue be fixed by the due date of April 30? If not, I want refund for the service I paid. I cant even file.
@mckurcan Yes, Our development team is working to get this issue fixed. It will be fixed before the due date of filing. Once it is fixed we will post an update here. We appreciate your patience.
@CJC60 It is a known issue at CRA's end, and we are aware of this issue, and our development team is working for a resolution. We appreciate your patience.
