Turbo Tax Premier On-Line tax year 2024 Canada (March 24, 2025). The error I received as follows "The sum of box 52 and box 53 must equal the total capital gain or loss in box 21 of your T3 slip. Please review your imported data."
I have reviewed the particular T3 the error points to numerous times. Have even deleted and re-entered the slip. The data and the addition are correct, but the error will not clear! Help!
Ignore box 52 and just enter total ap gains into box 53, equal to box 21.
BUT: if you have self and spouse, values for cap gains at least will NOT split as they should based on ownership at the top. Instead you need to cut all values in half and enter separate T3s for each of you. TTax is having trouble fixing this,
@Dinger For the error on the T3 slip not balancing box 52+53 to equal box 21A, trying to enter the sum of 52+53 into box 53 (deleting 52) should fix the problem.
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!! I tried everything but eliminating box 52!!! I have been stuck for DAYS!!!!
I still couldn't fix that problem after doing this multiple times. Any other way to do that? or any update from Turbotax to fix this problem?
@AmyBella Have you tried deleting the slip & re-entering it, but putting the sum of 52+53 into box 53 (without ever typing anything into 52).
I tried deleting the T3 slip and re-entering but it still won't input the capital gains # in form T936
I called support- nice lady who took my info regarding the ongoing t3 problem. Made like she has never heard of it although 100’s of posts now about it.
i have called CTV and CBC who will be doing a story on TurbobTax.
@Boxter You got the press involved? Wow! You are my new hero! I’m looking forward to watching the scandalous news story! It’s payback time!
@Boxter all of our hundreds of collective complaints seem to be falling on deaf ears. Maybe now that you got CBC and CTV involved, Intuit will take our complaints seriously and fix this issue.
I did it just now.... but still didn't work!

@AmyBella isn’t this driving you crazy? I’m out of my mind with frustration
yes, have been trying to do this for couple weeks!!! they are my parents' tax return!!
I managed to get my parents’ returns submitted because they don’t have any T3’s. But I can’t submit mine or my wife’s because we have several T3’s. Far too many to manually split without pulling my hair out.
@nerdboyjoe We are aware of this issue, and our development team is working on a resolution. Once it is resolved, we will update you in this thread. We appreciate your patience.
my situation is vice versa. I did mine, no issue but when it involved T3 in my parents. FRUSTRATION!!!
Re: When any value is entered into Box 52 or 53 the amount is added to the Total Capital Gains. What this does is double up on the Capital Gains received.
I also tried submitting at 50 % for my spouse and I and then splitting it manually the T3 into separate entries at 100%. They all added additional Capital Gains and negatively effected the Taxes Owing.
You cannot Net File until you clear this error> So Turbo Tax has to fix this.

How do you get added to the notification list for when it’s fixed?
when I talked to help desk on Friday, with nothing resolved, it received a notification my ticket was closed.
ive seen people posting about this in community fb groups.
I have worked out a work around that I think has been mentioned before
1) The % split of the TT- T3 Box 21 of the T3 summary does not carry into the individual spouses Total Capital Gains Schedule 3 Line 17599 and 17600.
2) When you add the amounts into the Box 52 and Box 53 of the TT- T3 summary the amount will not pick up the % split and applies 100%. That is why it appeared to double up as it was not picking up Box 21 at all in the first attempt.
3) If you split all the amounts from the T3 and thus submit two T3's one for each spouse it will work and the error appears to be cleared. NOTE: Box 21 must equal Box 52 plus Box 53. and those boxes populate CG schedule 3 Line 17599 and 17600.
I hope this helps
That didn't work These are the messages I am getting
The amount of foreign capital gains included in box 52 plus the amount from boxes 54 and 56 can't be more than the total capital gains in box 52 additionally the amount of foreign capital gains included in box 53plud the amounts from boxes 55 and 57 can't be more than the total capital gains in box53.
The sum of capital gains before june 25 in box 52 plus capital gains after in box 53 must equal capital gains in box 21.
