Activation code not working

Box with code purchased at Staples. Code does not work.

@Georjette   Since tax year 2020, there is a difference between a License Code (for Desktop) and an Activation Code (for Online). This error code 606 means you are trying to enter a Code for TurboTax Online in a Desktop software (or vice-versa). 

We understand, sometimes, this can be confusing but, on the box (or on the retailer website), you have to choose between TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop. They are not the same software and codes from one cannot be used in the other one. 

 If on the box it's TurboTax Online, you can activate your code to your account on this link. 

 If on the box it's TurboTax Desktop, you can download/install your software from this link.

First, please make sure that you have purchased the right product. The codes for TurboTax Online will not work with TurboTax Desktop & vice-versa.

Second, if you bought TurboTax at a retailer (Costco, Walmart, Staples, etc…), please make sure that you are using the code that came in the package. It may be on a slip of paper or on a scratch-off card. It is not on the outside of the box or on your receipt.

If you have bought TurboTax Online, please go to turbotax.ca/activate to use your code before you start your returns. Using the code again will give an error message.

If you have bought TurboTax Desktop, you will be asked for the licence code when you install the software. My kids have been using Turbo tax for a couple years because of me and they each have their own account. This year I decided to purchase Turbotax online the Premier version at Costco because it give me 12 returns. I have activated the code on my account, however I cannot reuse the code for my kids on their own account. This is a bad design as I want to teach my kids to do their own taxes with my assistance, but with this method, it looks like they are stuck to using my account. Also all their previous profiles are on their account. Can this be fixed? Can you give alternate codes that my kids can enter as I have purchased a 12 submission?

@martgin Thanks for your feedback. TurboTax Online edition can only be linked to one account as sated on the box. If the activation code is linked to your account, It cannot be used by other user. Correct, the only way is to use your account to prepare other returns.

I purchased the turbo tax Home & Business software from Staples. downloading was successful howevew, I keep getting error 606 when I try to activate my software stating the licence code is wrong but it is what came in the box. Help!!!!
