The question "How much did you pay for Licenses, Business Taxes or Dues?" does not refer to GST.  If you are a GST Registrant you usually keep your GST collected and paid in separate records from the tax return. When completing the Self-Employed section of your tax return, you enter your income and expenses on Form T2125.

The expenses to be included here will be entered on Line 8760 of the form and include some of the following:

  • License Fees - beverage licenses, trade licenses, motor vehicle licenses and others.
  • Business Taxes - municipal taxes, land transfer taxes and others.

You can also deduct annual dues or fees to keep your membership in a trade or commercial association, as well as subscriptions to publications. You cannot deduct club membership dues (including initiation fees) if the main purpose of the club is dining, recreation, or sporting activities.
