T4(P) slip box 23 is blank and box 14 has amount. Will not allow return to be net-filed. The slip is correct the spouse's slip indicates amount in box 14 and an amount in box 23 (12). The CPP is split between the spouses for tax benefit. How do I net file return. It has been net filed in past years.
Could someone please help me out with this - there must be an overwrite key or something?
If you have a T4A(P) slip for Canada Pension Plan benefits, even if these benefits are shared between spouses, there should be an entry in Box 23. If this is not the first year claiming these benefits, that number in Box 23 should be 12. When CPP benefits are split for tax purposes, each person receives their own T4A(P) slip showing with amounts in Box 23.
You may have to verify the number of months with CRA if it is not shown on the paper copy of the slip. You can check the slip by signing into your online CRA My Account if you have one, or contacting CRA by phone at 1-800-959-8281.
Note: CPP Benefits are not eligible for Pension Splitting on the tax return.
If both spouses receive a T4A(P) slip for Canada Pension Plan benefits that are being "split" or "shared", they should each receive a T4A(P) slip in their own name with similar amounts in Box 14 and 23.
If one of these slips does not have the entries in Box 23, there is a mistake on that particular slip and it needs to be verified with CRA. TurboTax or any other tax software will not allow this return to be electronically filed unless the Box 23 has an entry in it.
You will need to contact Service Canada or Canada Revenue Agency to fix this.
when the cpp was started the husband elected to split the cpp with wife that has no income. The husbands slip shows the full 12 months and half income and the other 0 months and the other half of the income. The return has been able to be net filed in prior years. There is nothing wrong with the slips. Is there any way the the return have the amount directly entered on line 11400 ? Some software you can use F2 and overwrite you can still netfile, but you cannot on turbotax is that correct?
Only if you are retired, a number should appear in box 23. If you were not retired, just ignore it. If in doubt, leave it blank and it will not affect the bottom line whatsoever.
Cheers,
Michael
Turbotax will not allow the file to be net-filed. It says the slip needs to be fixed but it does not. What is the way around this?
yes other software does allow this - because the return has been net-filed before no problem. the slip is correct from CRA. what is the way around this, please
