I have the same message. 'Apparently' they are fixing it, but it is taking too long.
Please re-enter the amounts on box 52 & 53. If that doesn't solve the problem, enter the sum of 52 & 53 into box 53 and delete the amount in box 52. The new capital gains rate is not going into effect this year, so both boxes are taxed at the same one-half (50%) rate.
The 'work around' works... However, I just want to make sure the CRA doesn't flag my return for this reason., so hopefully an update will fix this soon. I just checked though and it appears to be fixed.
@Newcastle1 "I just checked though and it appears to be fixed". Are you sure? I've checked about 50 times today and there are no updates, at least not to the desktop version.
I have online version too.
Please let us know if you could successfully NETFILE.
Thank you.
@Newcastle1 My About Box says Version 00.01.61 Build 6004 068G24. It does not fix the spousal splitting of capital gains.
Should I made up the number for box 52 & 53 as my T3 slip does not have values on these boxes?
Good morning,
What is the estimated timeline for getting this problem fixed?
Thanks.
@AdaNg Since the information will be inaccurate, we will not recommend making them up and adding them. We recommend that you wait. We are aware of this issue, and our development team is working on a resolution.
@aalaily .We are hoping this can be resolved quickly. Once it is resolved, we will update you in this thread. We appreciate your patience. We are aware of this issue, and our development team is working on a resolution.
@Zibonesti many have asked for an estimate but TurboTax keeps saying they have no estimate
The problem is not fixed on the desktop version. The work around does not work.
When will it be fixed.
@TurboTaxAniqua , thanks for letting us know.
In all my years of using TurboTax, dating back to 2004, I've never experienced this kind of software error. What I find even more perplexing is that the development team is unable to provide an estimate to getting this problem fixed. The T3 slip is not new and the proposed Government changes do not impact how the boxes should behave (e.g.: my T3 slip has an amount in box 21 but no amount in boxes 52 or 53, no different than last year).
Hopefully, you can speak to the person responsible for development and get us an estimated timeline.
Thanks.
@Zibonesti totally agree. I have used this product (under various product names) for 30 years. I’ve also been a developer of accounting and financial software for 30 years. If they can’t give an estimate on a release date, then they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.
@Garoto, if it helps, one way to get TurboTax to accept your slip is to put whatever amount you see in box 21 in box 52 or box 53.
Based on the descriptions from the T3 slip, Box 52 and Box 53 are simply separating your capital gains (Box 21) into those realized before and after June 24, 2024. This likely relates to a tax rule change or reporting requirement.
Example:
If your T3 shows that you have $500 in box 21, you would also put that amount in box 52; thus indicating that $500 in capital gains were realized before June 24, 2024.
I can confirm the splitting of capital gain is NOT WORKING. Turbotax totally ignores the value of the splitting percentage. Is there going to be a fix ? Has anyone found a workaround?
@nerdboyjoe Thanks for the feedback. We are aware of this issue, and our development team is working on a resolution.
We are hoping to get this resolved quickly. You have been added to the email list and will receive an email once it is resolved. We appreciate your patience.
Can you please add me to the list for notification of when this Capital Gain splitting will be fixed, or when it is fixed.
spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was happening, it doesn’t seem to be too difficult of a fix, perplexed here, can’t understand what’s taking it so long.

I am also getting this same error an wondering why this fix is taking so long.
Is it possible to get a refund for this software that had never worked right this year for us?
I’ve been using and recommended TT to family and friends for decades, I can’t no longer do that but have now told them to look for alternatives
i was a programmer/coder and for the life of me I can’t understand what’s the real issue is to fix this, doesn’t seem to be that complicated given that it is just a one function program, file and process tax returns. It’s is not as if it is a payroll programs with unions, benefits to calculate, connections to external systems etc??
I fell that TT doesn’t feel the urgency here, fix it or refund us the $ and we can both move on!
@Haze_325 long time developer of financial software and enterprise software here. I agree with you. This bug doesn’t seem too complicated to fix.
