T3 form box 21

When I enter capital gains in the box 21, the amount entered is not included in the total sum of capital gains on the line 12700, page 2.

Do you have an amount in box 30 of your T3?

At this moment, our Teams are working on resolving this issue. As soon as it is resolved, TurboTax software will be updated. If you are using Desktop version, make sure to authorize them when available.

We thank you for your patience.

Perfect! Make sure all the information on your original T3-slip(s) are accurate and when the schedule 3 is finalized, the software will be updated, and the calculation will show properly.

This issue should have been flagged by INTUIT way before users like me found the bug. If you are not paying attention you end up filing with errors. Very disappointed with TurtboTax. Have been using it for 25 years and more and more questioning my loyalty.

It's now March 21, 2025 and T3 box 21 is STILL not populating onto the federal form line 17599 or 12700. What's up??

My point exactly!

This is not rocket science.

This is now delaying the filing of tax returns which is delaying refunds to clients. We are looking like fools in the eyes of clients.

When it is finally resolved, I hope you will not keep it a secret.

There should be a big notice on my screen every time I start up Turbotax, telling me either "Do not file yet" or "everything is fixed, go ahead and file".

You can't expect people to A] to figure out by themselves that there is something wrong and B] spend endless hours hunting for answers.

Based on how this issue has been handled by Turbotax so far, I am very disappointed by the lack of transparency.

There is a similar issue with the T5008 not being included in the calculations. It turns out, if you put in a date of disposition (I used 31/01/2024), it works fine.

Could not agree more with what you say. This is total BS. No way to run a railroad. Have been using TurboTax longer than I can remember but seeing how this has been handled is making me re-evaluate my choice of tax preparation software. It makes me look bad in front of my clients.

@krauty31 We can understand the frustration. Yes, we will update here once it is resolved. We are aware of this issue, and our development team is working for a resolution. We appreciate your patience.

Any timeline as to when the issue that the desktop software (Std Edition) won't include capital gains reported in a T3 slip?

This is beyond frustrating. We are getting into April and the number of returns that are not filed because of this issue is a real embarrassment. People should have had their refunds by now but I am forced to tell them that their return is not even filed yet. After this tax season TurboTax/Intuit will have much to answer for if they want users to come back next year.

Intuit as a leading technology company should have the ability to deal with this on an urgent basis and resolve it immediately.  What are some good alternatives for us to use?

Switching tax preparation software in the middle of tax season is never a good idea. A workaround would be to forget about what the T3 says and report the capital gain in box 52 but I hate to even bring that up because you never know what other bugs are lurking in the background that we don't even know about. I dread the notices of assessment that will be received from CRA & RQ this year. God help us.

For now, I'm including the T3 slip amounts in a T5 slip which seems to capture the capgain okay, but I obviously wouldn't file it that way........

Interesting that on CRA's website (link below), they have a whole long list of software providers that are certified for 2024 including for capital gains (specifically listed), but Turbotax is absent (although their pro version is shown)......

I was able to submit on March 21. My return  has capital gains (T5 and T3). CRA site says that my return is being treated, while Revenu Quebec indicates that my refund will be deposited on March 31. Years past, federal returns were always treated faster than Quebec ones.

In my (an many others') Standard version of Turbotax, any capital gains reported on a T3 slip are not included in the calculation of taxes, so clearly a software glitch.  I haven't tried to file as I wouldn't want to do it before the software glitch has been corrected by Intuit / Turbotax.

In Fact TurboTax for 2024 is on the list from 2017-2024. I guess certification does not mean much.

To krauty31:  Thanks for the tip re t5008.  It now works for me.  Didn't have to do that last year.

When do you expect this glitch to be fixed.  I am waiting to efile my return but can not do it until you fix this.

@Karialberti01 For the error on the T3 slip not balancing box 52+53 to equal box 21A, trying to enter the sum of 52+53 into box 53 (deleting 52) should fix the problem.
