T5 Detail Summary Page - Rounding vs. Displaying Cents

Hi,


Unless there's a compelling reason why the TurboTax Online T5 Summary page omits the cents entered for each T5 (that summary page rounds up/down to the nearest dollar) I think it would be helpful if instead it displayed the amount precisely, and included the cents.

 

I received a T5 for 0.48 cents (< for real..) and I can't distinguish in the TurboTax T5 Summary page whether I had entered a value for Box 23 for that T5 entry - because the T5 Summary page shows "$0".

If it showed $0.48 in the T5 Summary page, I'd know I'd entered the amount.

I assume you mean you have $0.48 in box 13, as box 23 is recipient type and not shown on the T5 summary page. It looks like the $0.48 is being rounded down to zero, similar to how it's being done in this government of Canada document: https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/csj-sjc/legis-redact/legistics/p1p26.html But the $0.48 is still included on your tax return even if it looks like it's not there.

Sorry, yes I meant Box 13.

 

And yes, if say I had three T5s each which reported Box 13 at 0.48, I believe the TurboTax T5 Summary Page total would not be ultimately what TurboTax (correctly) would NETFILE. I am pretty the T5 TurboTax T5 Summary Page would show the total as 1 dollar short.

0.48 + 0.48 + 0.48 = 1.44 (reported via NETFILE with CRA's rounding, cumulatively as $1 dollar ?)
0.48 + 0.48 + 0.48 = 0.00 (displayed in TurboTax T5 Summary page as $0 dollars)

Maybe you could have 2 columns in the T5 summary page, "Entered" and "Reported" so you can see you entered something - but also see what will be reported to CRA, and the Entered and Reported T5 totals.

Actually nix my suggestion about having additional Entered vs. Reported columns in the T5 Summary page. That idea would have to be propagated everywhere in any TurboTax Summary type page.


I'd just rather see the actual data I entered, on the T5 Summary page (or any other Summary type page).

And have TurboTax do the CRA rounding in the overall Income summary screen (the page which shows Line numbers and what will be reported to CRA).
