Tuition Assistance Received from Work

Hello,

I'm in school part-time and received tuition assistance from my employer. I did not receive a T4A for this amount I asked my employer about it. I received this reply:

"Please be advised that any amount of money paid to you from the (program) is not eligible as a non-refundable tuition or education tax credit.

The monies reimbursed under the (program) are not added to your income and are not treated as a taxable benefit."

I'm just wondering what this means and where I need to account for this money on my tax return.

Thanks!

For the purposes of the tuition credit, you can't claim any tuition that an employer has reimbursed. So if you have a T2202 with $1000 in tuition on it, and your employer gave you $250 to help pay for it, you can only claim $750 for the tuition credit.
