I didn't put my tuition fee information during the 2016-2017 tax season. How can I input the information now in 2019? Do I have to download the TurboTax 2016 and 2017 to file them separately? I only need to file the tuition fees for those years.
If you didn't claim your Tuition Fees in 2016 or 2017, you'll need to make an adjustment to each tax year. Then once the adjustments are processed by CRA, the amounts can be used on your current year return or in any year which they are needed.
CRA will automatically apply the Tuition Credits if you need them in future years to reduce any tax payable you may have. You can either make an adjustment to the prior year tax returns by signing in to your CRA My Account and completing them online, or by mailing in the T2202A slips along with a paper adjustment. (It might be easiest to complete the adjustment and mail it in as CRA will likely request the T2202A slips anyhow).
Once you file these adjustments, CRA will have them on record and apply the amounts to any tax return for which you need them. More information on filing adjustments can be found in this link: I have filed my tax return. Can I still make changes?
How and what are the steps to make the adjustments? Do I have to download the TurboTax 2016 and 2017 to file the tuition fee?
The tax adjustment required is based on the method that you filed your tax return previously. Assuming TurboTax was the software you used to file those years, then you will be able to log into TurboTax for the relevant year (see link below) and amend the return for the respective year. This is required for CRA to have on file the amount you are now claiming from previous years for tuition credit.
