Turbo Tax 2023 - FHSA deduction

Turbo Tax 2023 does not appear to have a deduction line for First Home Savings Account credit. Will the software be updated?

This issue has been duplicated at our end and it cannot be found in the Easy Step mode.

Fortunately, the FHSA can be entered in the forms view of the software as seen in the images below. You will first need your T4FHSA slip to enter your information.

We have sent this on to our team to be verified. Thank you for letting us know.

Thank you for your patience.

Yes there is continuously updates being done. Please tell us which TurboTax software you are using; Online or Download and which version so we can try and duplicate this. Have you received and entered your T4FHSA yet?

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Using Turbo Tax 2023 Standard CD / Download, Version 00.01.12

T4FHSA not yet received, too early.

However, I have started my return and could not find any deduction or credit line in the software for the First Home Savings Account (FHSA), nor any Help within the software for this Federal deduction / credit.

Schedule 15

Line 19

TT says it's a calculated field. I think you've got outstanding issues there. That field should function similar to the RRSP worksheet which allows manual input.

Furthermore, no 2024 carry fwd info shows up when running the Check process.

Looks sloppy right now, please tell me you'll have it cleaned up in time.

Have you received and entered your T4FHSA yet? This then opens other lines which show up as needed.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

It's line 20 on schedule 15 that is the problem. I should be able to reduce this amount if I want to carry forward part of my 2023 contribution but TT won't let me because it is a calculated field.

I am using the desktop version and I downloaded it Jan 20th.

@mmcintosh9999 Our product development team is looking into this.

Yes line 20 on FHSA schedule 15 is a problem. It should allow manual entry if you don't want to deduct FHSA contributions this year (i.e. carryforward to a future year).

This must be fixed or you can't file using Turbotax 2023.

Line 20 on FHSA schedule 15 is STILL a problem.

It will not allow manual entry if you don't want to deduct FHSA contributions this year (i.e. carryforward to a future year).

This issue was first flagged way back in January and again over two weeks ago.  It's the same process as unclaimed RRSP deductions.  Is there an ETA on when this issue will be resolved? It's been almost two months already.

This must be fixed or I can't file my return using TurboTax 2023.

Thanks for your quick response.

It hasn't been resolved.  I just spent 45 minutes with the Customer Support team and my only resolution was a link to this thread.

Thank you!

I think you can override and still use netfile (TurboTax support said I can do it).

I haven't filed yet but almost ready and I over rode that field and I've gone to the end of TurboTax (past error report, etc) and it looks like I'll be able to netfile.

Good luck let mw know if that works. I'm filing next week.

Thx!

Please post if the work around allows you to file correctly.  I'm still waiting for some slips, so I won't be filing for a while. I do hope TurboTax fixes the issue though.

Thank you!

@JBBlair1 The over ride will not stop you from using NETFILE.

The TurboTax help line is of little actual help. They currently believe that Sch15 Line 20 is functioning correctly.

Line 20 must be able to accept manual input much like the RRSP worksheet line (ii), end of story.

Here's how to prove:

1. confirm that the Line 20 field is coming up "Calculated amount"  when trying to enter less than the default amount.

2.  Remove the "X" at the top of the form

3. Run the review process.  It will clearly ask if you want to deduct a lesser amount.  And it will populate Sch 15 correctly. The number will appear as red just as it does if override is used. The Review process uses a clearer explanation as to what is required on line 20

Good grief, TurboTax.  Get a cold set of eyes on this issue.

It's just a sloppier product and I'm surprised TurboTax has released it to the market

Further Sch15 issue(s):

Line 6  has no description

2024 Carryforwards make no mention of FHSA (assuming Sch15 shows carryforwards available to 2024)

This is a no-brainer fix ... and they've indicated to me that nothing further will be done.

I've had no luck with them. You?

seems they could just remove the Calc/field tag and that's it.

I overrode the amount and efiled.   No mention of carryforwards re FHSA to 2024

For proof:

remove the "X" at the top of SCH15

run the review process

thanks for your time

lINE 20, SCHEDULE 15 NEEDS TO BE INPUT, NOT CALCULATED.

It is at discretion of taxpayer if they want to deduct the full FHSA contribution available for deduction

Hello,

I spoke to a representative, who viewed my screen.  She was unable to resolve my issue because it is a coding error.  Line 20 needs to be updated to allow data to be inputted.  It is a coding issue, that for some reason TurboTax is refusing to acknowledge or update.

Schedule 15 - FHSA Contributions,  Transfers and Activities

Line 20 - Needs to be updated to be an INPUT field (currently being calculated erroneously)

The FHSA is the same as an RRSP, contributors have the option of deferring the contribution deduction to future years.  The code already exists, why is the tech team refusing to update the code? This was flagged as an issue in January.  Please escalate this issue to someone in the coding department who can resolve this issue.

Thank you!
