TurboTax Desktop will only work on Windows 10 & 11.
You can use TurboTax Online for Mac OS or the app for iOS.
However, isn't Turbo Tax online more costly per return than desktop? This seems to be unfair for iOS Mac users.
The price of TurboTax Online is based on what you enter on your return. So, if you are eligible to use the Free version of TurboTax Online, then it's cheaper because there is no Free version of TurboTax Desktop. If you buy a multi-return code for TurboTax Online at a 3rd party retailer, and don't need to upgrade, then the cost per return would be the same for TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop (unless you use Desktop Basic).
For the first time since Turbotax has been sold in Canada, actually since Quicktax first came out, I have been forced to buy a competitor's product to do my 2024 tax return. I just can't understand how other companies can make desktop software that works on iOS but Intuit can't. I want to be able to save my tax file on my hard drive and not on Intuit's server, that's why I don't want to use Turbotax online. Besides, I would cost me almost 3 times as much to do five returns.
Maybe one day Turbotax (Intuit) will get with the times.
@JayFer We don't have a downloadable version for MAC Users this time. We appreciate your feedback on this ,it is well noted. Thanks
Thanks for replying. All I can do is keep my fingers crossed for when the tax year 2025 software is released
Yes I agree TurboTax TurboImpot should have a native MacOs version
@Gilles9999 We don't have a downloadable version for MAC Users this time. We appreciate your feedback on this ,it is well noted. Thanks
Hi Jackes, I narrowed it down to 2 software products, Taxtron and StudioTax, Both are listed on CRA website as being approved for NetFile. Both allow "autofill" forms from your CRA account.
It would be nice if Turbotax would offer a MacOS desktop version.
Hi laura4114,
This link https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax/software/desktop shows the Turbotax Desktop options with note (under the title) that these downloads are for Windows only. Mac users must use the Turbotax online filing product
@laura4114 TurboTax Desktop Version is for Windows OS. It does state on the website and on the Retail product box too.
It is useful for me to be able to download the app on my Mac
as I use a virtual Machine to run Windows ( I could download within the virtual machine running Windows, but this would need another step, it is quicker for me just to download on my Mac and launch it for my Virtual Machine ( Paralells)
I'm not willing to go through those contortions when it's easier to use products that are made to work on Mac OS. As I stated, I have been a loyal TurboTax desktop user ever since it was called QuickTax and would have preferred to continue using it after buying a Mac computer. I'm not interested in their online filing option. I'll come back to TurboTax if/when they decide to offer a Mac desktop version.
Certainly agree that I would prefer TurboTax running natively on my Mac, it did long ago
and it does in the USA
they lacked vision when they stop developing for the Mac, maybe back then it was less popular
if they can for USA, then they can for Canada
Well said Gilles, surely there are many more people than just a handful of us who are frustrated by this. Maybe it's intentional to lure us into filing online where they are currently charging $ 21 per return to use their Deluxe package. I have 5 returns to do for my family so this would cost me $105. Compare this to the Turbotax Desktop Standard option that costs $40 and allows 8 returns to be filed. That $65 difference is quite significant.
I agree, it’s frustrating that I have to keep an old lap top to file my taxes because it keeps crashing. I have been waiting for an iOS version for years. I believe you have one for the US, so why not Canada!
@SeimPeople We don't have a Desktop version for MAC. It is for Windows OS only. Your feedback is noted and we will pass it on to the assigned department.
