unused tuition

Turbotax seems to randomly select an amount to deduct. How do I override this?

TurboTax automatically whatever amount of your tuition is needed to reduce or eliminate your taxes owing, and there is no way to override this. Other credits and deductions are also considered, so the amount of tuition credit used may not be what you are expecting.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Thank you for your response. However, Turbo Tax did not use enough unused tuition to eliminate the amount of tax owing. Last year, I was able to use as much unused tuition as needed. Have the rules changed?

Last year, you used as much as you wanted, and whatever amount is left after using tuition last year, you claim this year.

For example, the total of unused tuition fees is $1000, and you used $800 dollars this year. So, you can only claim 200 dollars not more than that.
