Vastly incorrect unused RRSP contributions calculation

Just like with 2023's version the 2024 software still has an error with unused RRSP contributions. Like last year it's showing as more than $198 millions! Yes, millions! It went into CRA like that last year. No wonder I've been re-assessed three times, and counting. It's a simple calculation: allowable RRSP contribution minus actual contribution. Really thought that this would have been fixed for 2024, but no. Can't believe I've fallen into the trap of buying this again. I will have to buy UFile now.

Are you using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online? Both of them do allow you to change the amount of unused RRSP contributions.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Using TT Standard download so Desktop version. I will try to manually override but why is the software doing this? Don't recall any issues with 2022 and earlier.

If you're using EasyStep Mode, then on the Registered Savings Plan Profile check off “Have unused RRSP/PRPP contributions or unused Specified Pension Plan contributions from prior years”. Then as you continue through the pages, you’ll get the option to view and change your unused contribution amounts.

If you’re using Forms Mode, you can see & change the amount on the Carry FWD form. Look near the bottom of the 1st page.

As to why it happened – if the amount was incorrect on your 2023 return, then when you transferred your information to 2024, the erroneous number would have been entered into your 2024 return.

As per the response from Turbo, you must delete the wrong amount  and use the amount from your 2023 assessment.

I have deleted the amount and it continues to appear.

Also, I rechecked 2023 and I did not have any carry forward any amount.

What are next steps given we are so close to the deadline?

As far as I recall I just over-wrote the amount with the correct amount, on the 2023 form after which the correct amount was brought forward to the 2024 version. You should be able to over-write the amount showing in 2024 by going into the 'forms' view instead of easy-step.
