When claiming rental income (single room to a friend) do we need a GST/HST Number or Business Number assigned from CRA?

It's our primary residence and we're only charging a few hundred a month to cover increase in utilities and pay off the mortgage a bit faster.

You don’t need a business number or a partnership number. Here are the rules about when you must register for GST/HST, but it is unlikely that you would need to register: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/register-a...

In fact you may want to double check if you need to report the income at all. If you are renting the room to your friend at a lower rate than you could expect to get on the open market, the CRA may consider it a “cost-sharing arrangement”. You don’t need to report income from a “cost-sharing arrangement”, but you also can’t claim any expenses or losses. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/rental-income/renting-below-f...

You may want to contact the CRA and cofirm if you must report the income or not: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/2647704

the turbotax software is keeping to ask to fill up the account number (15 characters). i don't have this number and i cannot send the form by net file without this number. last year software did not ask me for that. Please advise why.
