In TurboTax Online, if you're not preparing your return together with your spouse's return, you enter your spouse's income on the Spouse form. The Spouse form is automatically added to your list of forms when you enter an applicable marital status.

Here are the steps to enter your spouse's net income:

1. Click on My Info on the left-hand side menu of your return screen.

2. Click on Marital Status; make sure you selected married.

3. Click on Spouse's personal information on the left-hand side menu.

4. Enter the information about your spouse and press Continue.

5. Enter your spouse's 2021 net income (Line 23600).

6. Once you complete filling this screen, make sure to click Continue at the bottom to save the information entered.

Once inside your return, please follow the steps below to enter your spouse's net income.

  • Go to your menu on the left side
  • Click on My Info then Marital Status to verify that married is ticked then click Continue on the bottom to save it.
  • On the menu, again, scroll down to click on Additional Information about (spouse) and this is where you will enter the income and other information about your spouse then click Continue.

Hello,

I've been trying to return my taxes using Turbo Tax Deluxe.  I'm so far able to enter my W2 income tax information, but unable to enter my wife's W2 income tax information.  My personal info shows that I'm Married and Filing Jointly with both my and my wife's name on the list, but nowhere it lets me add my wife's income.  I looked at other messages from Turbo tax on this issue, but I don't see any option for additional income information.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I haven't been able to find that option either, did you figure out how to add your spouses income?

Hello,

I need clarification on this point.

I am filing in 2024, so filing taxes for the 2023 year.

The line in question is asking for information from my spouse's 2023 tax return (line 23400, 23500, etc).

Are we not currently filling out this tax return? How can I have this information if it isn't filed yet? Is it looking for last year's return? I appreciate the clarification.

You are logged into TurboTax 2024. You can login to TurboTax Online 2023 here: https://ww1.2023.ca.turbotaxonline.intuit.com/

And yes, you need to put in your spouse's information from the same tax year that you are preparing for yourself. If your spouse/partner hasn't completed their return, you can put in an estimate for now and then put the correct number before you file.

@DreaH If your marital status is "Married" or Common Law,' you do need to report your partner's income as per the CRA's requirement to calculate the household income even if you are preparing your returns separately. If you don’t know what it is, you can enter an estimate to continue your return. Then when your spouse has completed their return, you can go back and put the correct income in before you file.

Ok so if I understand properly since my income is easier to calculate my spouse should file his taxes first or start to enter his info and once we have a specific amount I can file mine to obtain the correct info for his taxes? Do I just enter how much I made this year after provincial and federal taxes?

@DreaH That is correct; you would be required to enter your spouse's information. Once he has his information, you can add it to your tax profile.

You will report the income amount as per reported on your T-Slips.

@IDP

In TurboTax Online, if you are preparing your returns together, click on your spouse/partner's name at the top of the page. Then you can add their income information.

If you are preparing your return separately, click on 2024 tax Return at the top left of the page. Then click on Tax Profile, then Additional Information About Your Spouse. Click Continue until you get to the "Tell us more about SPOUSE" page. There you can enter your spouse/partner's income.
