Why do I have to list my spouses net income on my taxes if i'm claiming single? this seems to make a huge difference in my refund amount

If you are married, your marital status has to be married, unless you have separated or divorced and let the CRA know. And even if you are preparing your returns separately, the CRA will still need information about your spouse. https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/2647950

If you separated or divorced prior to 2018, you say "No" to the question "Did you separate from your spouse/partner in 2018?". The program will no longer ask you questions regarding your ex-spouse.
