Why is dividend tax credit not showing up on my return

You can rest assured that the Dividend Tax Credit is being calculated correctly and being added to both the T1 General Step 5 (formerly Schedule 1) and the Provincial tax form XX428.

When you enter a T3 or T5 tax slip, there are three boxes that relate to Eligible & Non-Eligible Dividends. The box numbers are as follows:

  • T3 Slip:
    • Boxes 49, 50 & 51 - Eligible Dividends
    • Boxes 23, 32 & 39 - Other than Eligible Dividends
  • T5 Slip:
    • Boxes 24, 25 & 26 - Eligible Dividends
    • Boxes 10, 11 & 12 - Other than Eligible Dividends

When you enter the first two boxes in TurboTax, the necessary calculation is done automatically and the Dividend Tax Credit is applied both federally and provincially. In the event an entry in Box 51, 39, 26 or 12 was missed or entered incorrectly, the software ensures you get your credits.
