Hello,
I am trying to enter my detailed info into turbo tax, but I don't see a place to do the calculation for being a part time employee, does it assume we are full time?
The formula for fulltime is 40 hours divide 168 x % of space used in house for work (part time would be less, say 20 hours).
The detailed work from home deduction expense is based on hours worked, not whether you are full or part time.
Please use the calculator on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), as it will give you the correct numbers to enter into TurboTax: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/line-22900-other-employment-expenses/work-space-home-expenses/calculate-expenses.html
Thanks Susan. I figured it out, since it's a designated work space I use and not a common shared space, the hours worked don't matter.
Your claim is not affected by the number of hours you use the space for work.
Your claim is based on your employment use of the space and is determined using the number of hours the space is used for work.
