You have entered an invalid industry code...

I have been doing my wife's business taxes for years using turbo tax. This year I have been getting "Errors" during the review step. For the last 8 years, I have used the same industry code with no issues. This year Turbo Tax has come up that "You have entered an invalid industry code"...

Due to having an Error in turbo tax, I cannot NETFILE.

I went along and made the assumption that maybe that industry code is no longer "good" or "acceptable"... so I went back to entering business information and went through your Turbo Tax Guide for Industry codes and picked a new number from the list. Turbo Tax is still giving me the same error...

Is there a Bug in your code that will not accept any code?

Some codes do not work for 2022. For example, codes 454300 & 454390 will no longer work for 2022. Direct Sellers must now choose codes based on what they are selling.

Please visit the NAICS website to find out the code based on what you are selling: https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1369825

For more information please see our TurboTax article: Finding the Right Industry Code for Your Business Tax Return

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I am having the same issue. My industry code hasn't changed (I checked) . No problem last year. Very disappointing if I have to print and mail my return especially after paying to use TurboTax. Hope they find a fix ASAP

I am having the same problem. I am looking for the industry code for direct sales but when using turbo tax it is giving me error code when I use  454300, What is the correct code? I am independent consultant with Epicure.

No matter what industry code I choose, TurboTax says its invalid, even when using their guide/dropdowns to select clearly valid codes. The software is broken, and for the second year in a row I am unable to NETFILE due to a bug in the code.

UPDATE: After copy/pasting the same code about 10 times, somehow on the 10th time. It no longer gave me the error....

I was able to netfile. Still, an extremely buggy experience.

Industry codes 519130 and 519100 both are valid codes and don't work either so it will not let me netfile my wife's return

Anybody found a solution I was using for the last 10 years 519130 and is not working. The code still is ok with CRA

I suggest clearing out the code entirely, saving it. Then fixing the error when prompted later on by pasting in the correct code.

Also try clearing the code out, saving it, entering an invalid code (000000), saving it, then entering the correct code and saving it again.

There is some sort of bug where the validation system doesn't see the correct code at first.

"General" Codes like 454300 & 454390 will no longer work for 2022. Direct Sellers and Retailers must now choose codes based on what they are selling.

Some examples are:

Avon: 456120 - Cosmetics, beauty supplies and perfume retailers https://bit.ly/3F0tDM2

Discovery Toys: 459120 - Hobby, toy and game retailers https://bit.ly/3ZmkMw5

Epicure: 445298 - All other specialty food retailers https://bit.ly/3miWiW0

Isagenix: 456191 - Food (health) supplement retailers https://bit.ly/3SQSbNa

Pampered Chef: 449129 - All other home furnishing retailers https://bit.ly/3SRZcNB

Scentsy: 459999 - All other miscellaneous retailers. https://bit.ly/3YvS37b

Thirty-One Gifts: 458320 - Luggage and leather goods retailers https://bit.ly/3SUGCED

If you need to find a code that's not listed in the examples, please visit the NAICS 2022 website here: https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1369825
