How do I enter a T3 slip (and matching relevé 16, if applicable)?

Instructions for the TurboTax online edition

If you have a T3

1. Select the image of the magnifying glass (or Find) in the upper-right area of TurboTax.

2. Enter “T3” in the Find window.

3. Select T3 Mutual Fund/Trust Income Allocations and Designations from the list of results, and then select Go.

The T3 - Summary step appears.

4. Select Enter New T3.

The T3 - Trust Income and Designations step appears.

5. Fill out the form in TurboTax with the information from your slip.

Note: If you’re splitting the income with your spouse/partner, enter the portion of the gain that your spouse/partner is claiming where it says Enter percentage of slip to claim on your spouse’s tax return (if applicable).

If you’re preparing your return together with your spouse/partner’s return:

  • Don’t enter this same slip on your spouse/partner’s return; TurboTax automatically calculates each spouse/partner’s portion based on the percentage you enter.
  • The amounts from the joint investment slip you entered on your return won’t appear on your spouse/partner’s T3 slip entry screen; TurboTax includes them on your spouse/partner’s Schedule 4 (Statement of Investment Income).

If you’re preparing your return separately from your spouse/partner’s return: Based on the percentage you enter, TurboTax automatically calculates your portion and claims it on your return.

6. If you have more T3 slips to claim, select Enter New T3 and fill out the form, repeating this step for each slip.

7. Select Done With T3.

The T3 - Summary step appears.

8. Review the information on screen and follow the instructions below that match your situation.

  • If the information is correct, select Done With T3s.
  • If the information isn’t correct, select Edit next to the slip and correct the information. When you return to this step, select Done With T3s.
  • If you have more T3 slips to enter, select Enter New T3. When you return to this step, select Done With T3s.

 

If you have a T3 and a relevé 16

1. Select the image of the magnifying glass (or Find) in the upper-right area of TurboTax.

2. Enter “T3” in the Find window.

3. Select T3 / Relevé 16 Mutual Fund/Trust Income Allocations and Designations from the list of results, and then select Go.

The T3 - Relevé 16 - Summary step appears.

4. Select Enter New T3 - Relevé 16.

The T3 - Trust Income and Designations step appears.

5. Fill out the form in TurboTax with the information from your slip.

6. Select Enter Relevé 16.

The Relevé 16 - Trust Income step appears.

7. Fill out the form in TurboTax.

8. Select Done With Relevé 16.

The T3 - Relevé 16 - Summary step appears.

9. Review the information on screen and follow the instructions below that match your situation.

  • If the information is correct, select Done With T3 and Relevé 16 Slips.
  • If the information isn’t correct, select Edit next to the slip and correct the information. When you return to this step, select Done With T3 and Relevé 16 Slips.
  • If you have more slips to enter, select Enter New T3 - Relevé 16. When you return to this step, select Done With T3 and Relevé 16 Slips.

 

Instructions for the TurboTax CD/download edition

If you have a T3

1. Select the image of the magnifying glass (or Find) in the upper-right area of TurboTax.

2. Enter “T3” in the Find window.

The Entering your federal T-slips step appears.

4. Select T3 - Trust Income and Designations.

5. Select Continue.

The T3 - Trust Income and Designations step appears.

6. Fill out the form in TurboTax with the information from your slip.

Note: If you’re splitting the income with your spouse/partner, enter the portion that you’re claiming where it says Your percentage.

If you’re preparing your return together with your spouse/partner’s return:

  • Don’t enter this same slip on your spouse/partner’s return; TurboTax automatically calculates each spouse/partner’s portion based on the percentage you enter.
