How do I enter tuition transferred from my spouse or child?

Important! Your spouse/partner or dependant must inform you of the amounts they’ve designated to you so that you know how much to enter.

Tip: If you’re preparing a coupled return:

Enter your and your spouse/partner’s income information, and your spouse/partner’s tuition and education information. TurboTax will automatically claim the unused amounts on the higher income spouse’s return. (If you’re not preparing a coupled return, you’ll enter the amounts your spouse/partner is transferring to you manually.)

First, if you haven’t already:

  • Make sure your spouse/partner or dependant has informed you of the federal and/or provincial amounts they’re transferring to you.
  • Enter all your income and RRSP information.
  • If you’re claiming tuition transferred from your spouse/partner, enter their income and RRSP information.
  • If you’re claiming tuition transferred from your child/grandchild, enter them as a dependant in the INTRODUCTION or Setting up step of TurboTax.
