How do I enter a T5 slip?

Using an online edition of TurboTax:

1. From the top-right of your screen, select Find* and type “t5” into the search field.

2. Select T5 – Investment income from the options that appear, and then select Go.

3. On the T5 – Summary step, select Enter New T5.

4. On the T5 – Investment Income step, enter the full amount in each box as shown on the slip.

5. If the slip is for a joint investment with your spouse/partner, at Enter percentage of the slip to claim on your spouse’s tax return (if applicable), enter the portion of the gain that your spouse is claiming.

  • If you’re preparing your return together with your spouse/partner, do not enter this same slip on your spouse/partner’s return. TurboTax automatically calculates each spouse/partner’s portion based on the percent you enter.
  • If you’re preparing your return separately from your spouse/partner’s, TurboTax automatically calculates your portion based on the percent you enter and claims it on your return.

Using a CD/download edition of TurboTax:

1. From the navigation menu on the left side of your screen, select INCOME & EXPENSES > T-Slips.

2. On the Entering your federal t-slips step, select T5 – Investment income, and then select Continue.

3. On the T5 – Investment Income step, enter the full amount at each box as shown on the slip.

4. If the slip is for a joint investment with your spouse/partner, at Your percentage, enter the portion that you’re claiming.

  • If you’re preparing your return together with your spouse/partner's return, do not enter this slip on your spouse/partner’s return. TurboTax automatically calculates each spouse/partner’s portion based on the percent you enter.

*If you don’t see the Find button, you may not have completed the Setting Up/Introduction step of your return. Continue through the Setting Up/Introduction step until the Find button appears.

Note: If you’re preparing your return together with your spouse/partner, the amounts from the joint investment slip you entered on your return will not appear on their T5 slip entry screen. Do not re-enter it. It will be included on their Schedule 4 - Statement of Investment income.
