Why do I need to update TurboTax if I installed from a CD or downloaded from the Internet?
You need to update TurboTax for one or more of the following reasons:
- Occasionally, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) changes a tax form or calculation after TurboTax releases the final version of the software. Updates to TurboTax might incorporate such changes into your software.
- Updates might include fixes like spelling corrections or software changes.
- If you installed an early release of TurboTax (for example, before CRA opened the NETFILE service), the NETFILE functionality might be disabled in your software. Without the NETFILE functionality, you are not able to submit your tax return to CRA over the Internet. When CRA opens the NETFILE service, an update to TurboTax enables the NETFILE functionality in your software.
To ensure that you have the most current information within TurboTax, or to enable the NETFILE functionality if you installed an early version of TurboTax, update your TurboTax before you file your tax return.
