In 2017, I got a loan to buy a personal small car. I live 200km away from my workplace - Manitoba. How can I declare that in my tax report?

It depends. If you are self-employed, you can claim your Motor Vehicle Expenses in the “Self-Employment” section of the interview. Click on the “Find” icon in the blue menu and search for “self”. Select “Self-Employment Summary” and then click the “Go” button.

On the “Your Self-Employment or Business Summary” page click “Edit” next to your business name.

Click on the “Motor vehicle expenses (including interest and leasing costs)” link.

 

If you are employed and you have a T2200 form from your employer, you can claim your Motor Vehicle Expenses in the Employment Expenses section. https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/replies/2647650

 

Otherwise, you can’t claim expenses related to your car. You can’t deduct the cost of travel to and from work, or other expenses, such as most tools and clothing. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-re...
