Claiming motor vehicle expenses for a self employed tax return?

Hi, I am self employed and I own my car. I use MileIQ to track my business kilometers versus personal one. My question is, when I submit my tax return, can I use the per kilometer rate (this is easily obtained through MileIQ app) and if i used the per kilometer rate, can i still submit fuel consumption, and car maintenance cost?

looking at 2018, I would submit more money if i used the per kilometer rate versus just submitting gas costs and maintenance/licence etc.

Thanks for your help

"can I use the per kilometer rate" – CRA will accept this, but they do not have to.

"I would submit more money if i used the per kilometer rate versus just submitting gas costs and maintenance/licence etc." – Not necessarily.

Here are some links to assist you in determining what is best suited to your advantage:

From the CRA:

To find Motor Vehicle Expenses in the online version of the software, you must be in the Self Employment Section – under Income Tab – you will be able to enter in everything you need there, including maintenance and gas.
