How do I pay for my tax return in the online edition of TurboTax?

At any point after you complete the Setting up section (the Introduction and Profile steps), you can pay for your tax return by jumping to the File step. However, you might find it beneficial to complete all the steps in the sequence that TurboTax walks you through to arrive at the payment step.

If you need to print your tax return before completing all the steps, follow the instructions below to jump to the payment step. This will allow you to pay for your tax return and gain immediate access to the Print function.

Note: You need to pay for your tax return before you can print or file your return.

If you aren’t already signed in to TurboTax, sign in to the year of the tax return you want to pay for:

Note: TurboTax for the 2017, 2016, and 2015 tax years is available for Windows download only.

Note: You don't have to pay if you're using TurboTax Free, but you still have to go through the payment step to get to the print option or to use NETFILE.

After you sign in, TurboTax lists all of your tax returns on the Great to see you again! step. If you are not on this step, do the following:

  • Select My Returns from the navigation bar.
  • Select View all tax returns.

The Great to see you again! step appears.

  1. Select Continue next to the return you’d like to pay for.
  2. Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the TurboTax menu. (The Find option becomes available after you've completed the Setting up section of your return.)
  3. In the Find window, type "CRA".
  4. From the list of search results, select CRA Online Mail, then select Go.
  5. On the Just a few steps left and we'll file your return step, select Start next to Review your order. The Secure checkout step appears.
  6. Follow the instructions below for your situation:
    1. If you aren't using a Coupon Code:
      1. Enter your payment info, then select Continue.
    2. If you're using a Coupon Code:
      1. Enter your payment info, then enter you Coupon Code number in the Coupon Code box located below the Order Summary box. Select Apply code.

TurboTax takes you back to the Just a few steps left and we’ll file your return step. Your payment is complete.

Note: Paying for your return doesn't file your return to the CRA.

Note: You don't have to pay if you're using TurboTax Free, but you still have to go through the payment step to get to the print option or to use NETFILE.

  • From the navigation bar, select My Returns (My Account & Returns in the 2018 edition).
  • Select View all tax returns.

The Great to see you again! step appears.

  1. Select Continue next to the return you’d like to pay for.
  2. Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the TurboTax menu. (The Find option becomes available after you've completed the Setting up section of your return.)
  3. In the Find window, type "CRA".
  4. From the list of search results, select CRA Online Mail, then select Go.
  5. On the Just a few steps left and we'll file your return step, select Start next to Review your order. The Your order summary window appears.
  6. Follow the instructions below for your situation:
    1. If you aren't using a prepayment or activation code:
      1. On the Your order summary step select Continue.
    2. If you're using a prepayment or activation code:
      1. On the Your order summary step, enter your pre-payment code in the blank field below Do you have a pre-payment or activation code? (Don’t put a space before the first number or after the last number of the code – this will make your code appear invalid.)
  7. Select Apply Code.
  8. Select Continue.
  9. On the Edit your info step, complete the required fields, then select Continue.
  10. On the Confirm your info step, select Continue.
  11. On the Order receipt step, select Close.

TurboTax takes you back to the Just a few steps left and we’ll file your return step. Your payment is complete.

Note: Paying for your return doesn't file your return to the CRA.

  • Select Return Manager.

The Great to see you again! step appears.

  1. Select Continue next to the return you’d like to pay for.
  2. Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the TurboTax menu. (The Find option becomes available after you've completed the Setting up section of your return.)
  3. In the Find window, type "CRA".
  4. From the list of search results, select CRA Online Mail, then select Go.
  5. On the Pay and Prepare to File step, select Proceed to checkout. The Your Order Summary window appears.
  6. Follow the instructions below for your situation:
    1. If you aren't using a prepayment code or activation code
      1. On the Your order summary step, select Continue.
    2. If you're using a prepayment code or activation code:
      1. In the Do you have a prepayment or activation code? section, enter your code and select Apply rebate. (Don’t put a space before the first number or after the last number of the code – this will make your code appear invalid.)
  7. Select Continue.
  8. On the Edit Your Info step, complete the required fields, then select Continue.
  9. On the Confirm Your Info step, select Continue.
  10. On the Order Receipt step, select Close.

TurboTax takes you back to the Pay and Prepare to File step. Your payment is complete.

Note: Paying for your return doesn't file your return to the CRA.
