How do I enter dependants into TurboTax?

by TurboTax1 Updated 3 weeks ago

Your dependants' information (like their birth date, how they are related to you, and their income) is used to decide if you can get certain credits and deductions. Make sure you enter this information correctly.

Select your product and follow the instructions.

When you start a new return TurboTax will ask Do you have any dependants? in the Intro interview. If you select Yes, you’ll then enter your dependant info.

If in the Intro interview, you incorrectly answered No to the dependants question, or if later on you need to edit what you entered in the intro:

  1. From the Tax home screen, select Personal info, then Edit.
  2. On the Your personal info screen, select Edit next to Dependants.
  3. On the Do you have any dependants? screen, select Yes and continue.
  4. On the Tell us about your dependants screen:
    • Enter the info for your dependant.
    • If you have another dependant, select + Add another dependant.
  5. When all dependants are entered, select Done adding dependants
