How do I claim the Labour Mobility Deduction for tradespeople?
Starting with tax year 2022, the Labour Mobility Deduction is available to a tradesperson or apprentice employed in the construction of buildings at a temporary location in Canada.
To claim this deduction in TurboTax, follow the steps below.
- Select Find and enter labour mobility in the search field.
- Select Labour Mobility Deduction, then Go.
- On the Employment Expenses screen, select Yes.
- Select T2200 - Declaration of Conditions of Employment, then Continue.
- Select Labour Mobility Deduction for an Eligible Tradesperson, then Continue.
- Enter your amounts on the Labour Mobility Deduction for an Eligible Tradesperson screen, then select Continue.
- Your claim is included in the amount for Employment expenses on your Deduction Summary (which you can access using Find).
- Select Find and enter employment in the search field.
- Select Employment expenses, then Go.
- On the Employment expenses screen, select Yes.
- Select T2200 - Declaration of Conditions of Employment, then Continue.
- Select Labour mobility deduction for an eligible tradesperson, then select Forms from the toolbar. You're now on the Statement of Employment Expenses form.
- In the Line 11 - Calculation of labour mobility deduction for an eligible tradesperson section, enter any eligible:
- Unclaimed (prior-year) expenses on line 33
- Transportation expenses on line 34
- Meal expenses on line 35
- Temporary lodging expenses on line 36
- Temporary work location employment income on line 38
- Select EasyStep from the toolbar.
- Your claim is included in the amount for Employment expenses on your Deductions summary (which you can access using Find).
