How do I claim the Labour Mobility Deduction for tradespeople?

Starting with tax year 2022, the Labour Mobility Deduction is available to a tradesperson or apprentice employed in the construction of buildings at a temporary location in Canada.

To claim this deduction in TurboTax, follow the steps below.

  1. Select Find and enter labour mobility in the search field.
  2. Select Labour Mobility Deduction, then Go.
  3. On the Employment Expenses screen, select Yes.
  4. Select T2200 - Declaration of Conditions of Employment, then Continue.
  5. Select Labour Mobility Deduction for an Eligible Tradesperson, then Continue.
  6. Enter your amounts on the Labour Mobility Deduction for an Eligible Tradesperson screen, then select Continue.
  7. Your claim is included in the amount for Employment expenses on your Deduction Summary (which you can access using Find).
  1. Select Find and enter employment in the search field.
  2. Select Employment expenses, then Go.
  3. On the Employment expenses screen, select Yes.
  4. Select T2200 - Declaration of Conditions of Employment, then Continue.
  5. Select Labour mobility deduction for an eligible tradesperson, then select Forms from the toolbar. You're now on the Statement of Employment Expenses form.
  6. In the Line 11 - Calculation of labour mobility deduction for an eligible tradesperson section, enter any eligible:
    • Unclaimed (prior-year) expenses on line 33
    • Transportation expenses on line 34
    • Meal expenses on line 35
    • Temporary lodging expenses on line 36
    • Temporary work location employment income on line 38
  7. Select EasyStep from the toolbar.
  8. Your claim is included in the amount for Employment expenses on your Deductions summary (which you can access using Find).
