Where do I enter my GIS payments in TurboTax?

by TurboTax Updated a day ago

The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) is a nontaxable additional amount paid to those who receive Old Age Security (OAS) payments, and whose income is below a maximum annual threshold. If you received the GIS, the amount is included on your T4A(OAS) slip, in box 21.

Follow these steps to enter your GIS payments into TurboTax. Once entered, these payments are shown as social assistance income on your TurboTax return summary.

  1. Answer the initial Personal info and Tax profile interview questions if you haven't already. This unlocks the Tax home screen.
  2. From the Tax home screen, under Add to your return, enter T4(OAS) and select T4A(OAS) Old Age Security.
  3. At the T4A(OAS) Old Age Security screen, fill out the form, including the amount from box 21 of your T4(OAS) slip, then continue.

Before you begin, complete the Introduction/Profile steps of your return until the Find button appears in the menu.

  1. Select Find from the menu and enter T4A in the search field.
  2. Select T4A (OAS) Old age security and federal supplements from the results, then select Go.
  3. On the Entering your federal T-slips screen, select the checkbox for T4A (OAS), then select Continue.
  4. At the T4A(OAS) - Old Age Security screen, fill in the form, including the amount from box 21 of your T4(OAS) slip, then select Done With T4A(OAS).
