In TurboTax, how do I transfer my information from my previous year's tax return?
Transfer from a prior year is done at the start of a new return. If you’ve already started a TurboTax Online return, you can still transfer your information by starting a new one.
Here’s how to transfer information from your prior tax return:
If you used TurboTax Online last year
Go to TurboTax.
Enter your credentials (the same as you used last year) and select Sign In.
At Welcome back! We’ll transfer info for [your name], select Start your return.
At This year get unlimited tax advice from experts screen, under your preferred level of service, select Start. (For reference, it shows which option you chose last year.)
At Here's a snapshot of what we'll transfer, select Continue.
At We’re done!, select Continue.
Answer the initial Personal Info interview questions to confirm the info that was transferred and to identify any changes since last year. Completing this unlocks 2025 tax return in the left menu.
From 2025 tax return in the left menu, continue to access and prepare each part of your tax return using one of these features:

If you used TurboTax Desktop last year
Go to TurboTax.
If you don’t yet have a TurboTax Online account, follow the prompts to the File with complete confidence screen.
Select Create account and follow the steps to create your account.
Sign in, and on the Great to see you again! screen, select Start a new return.
Continue until arriving at How did you do your taxes last year? and select TurboTax Download/CD, then Continue.
At Let’s start with last year’s return, select Choose File, and from the Open pop-up, select your 2024 file and select Open.
Now that your 2024 filename is in the Choose a .tt23 file to upload field, enter your Social Insurance number and select Continue.
I didn't use TurboTax last year
You can import your T1 from last year to complete some of your personal information section.
