Where do I claim the home buyers' amount?
The Home Buyers’ Amount (HBA) is a nonrefundable credit that allows qualifying first-time home buyers and purchasers with disabilities to claim up to a $10,000 amount on line 31270 of their tax return, for a 15% tax credit of up to $1,500. Spouses or common-law partners can divide the credit between their returns.
Note: Purchasers with disabilities aren't required to be first-time home buyers to qualify for this credit.
Select your TurboTax product and follow the steps.
- Answer the initial Personal info interview questions if you haven't already. This unlocks 2024 tax return. From under To do, select Personal profile and complete the personal profile.
- At 2024 tax return, under Add to your return, enter first and select First Time Home Buyer’s Amount.
- At First-Time Home Buyers' Tax Credit, if you’re eligible for the current tax year, answer the questions and enter the amount you want to claim, then continue.
- Select the Find icon.
- Enter first in the search bar, select First time home buyers’ tax credit and select Go.
- At First time home buyers' tax credit:
- Answer the questions and continue.
- Enter your amount, up to the $10,000 maximum, and continue.
