Where do I enter political contributions?

In TurboTax Online:

  1. Select Find in the upper-right hand corner.
  2. Type Political Contributions and select Go.
  3. On the Political Contributions step, enter your amounts.

In TurboTax CD/Download:

  1. In the menu on the left, select PROFILE and then select your profile.
  2. In your profile, select Continue to get to the second page.
  3. Answer Yes to the question Did you make donations to a charity or political party?
  4. Check I made political donations and select Continue.
  5. Select Find in the upper-right hand corner.
  6. Type Political Contributions and select Go.
  7. On the Political Contributions step, enter your amounts.

You can claim contributions made to registered federal or provincial political parties, or to a federal or provincial election candidate or candidates made in the current tax year.

You can't claim political contributions made to a candidate or party in a municipal election unless you live in Québec.

Important: You can't carry forward political contributions to a future year, so be sure to claim the full amount in the year you made them.
