Dependents

For most 2020 I was primary caregiver to my 2 children.  In August we went to 50-50 custody, do I enter both children as dependents or 1 for me and 1 for their mom?

Thank you for your question.

You may be able to make the Eligible Dependant Credit claim for one dependant. You cannot claim this tax credit for both of your children.

You can get more information at the website of Claiming the Amount for an Eligible Dependant Credit.

The other parent may also be able to make the claim for an eligible dependant tax credit for the other child.

We appreciate you choosing TurboTax,

The Eligible Dependant Credit may be available for one dependant.

Both of your children cannot be eligible for this credit.

For clarification, please visit the following link:

A parent who has another child may also be able to claim an eligible dependant tax credit.
