Getting started
You cannot deduct brokerage fees on your return. As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), "Instead, use these costs when you calculate your capital gain or capital loss". You can add the number of fees to the purchase price of your stock. You can also reduce the amount you received from selling your stock by the number of your transaction fees. So that you adjust these costs when you calculate your capital gain or a capital loss.
For more information, please visit the webpage of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA): Line 22100 – Carrying charges, interest expenses, and other expenses
