To claim interest paid on a student loan:
- On line 31900 of your return, enter the eligible amount of interest paid on your student loans.
- Claim any corresponding provincial or territorial credits. You may claim those credits by entering the amount of your student loan interest on line 5852 of your provincial income tax return
In TurboTax Online:
- Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the TurboTax menu
- In the Find window, type Students and choose it from the list
- On the Your Student Profile step, select Student loan interest and then Continue
- On the Student Loan Interest step, enter your interest amounts

On line 31900 of your tax return, you can deduct the interest you paid on a student loan.
To claim interest on a student loan in TurboTax, follow these steps:
1. From the top right side, choose Find (or the magnifying glass symbol).
2. Type Students into the Find window and select it from the list. Then click Go.
3. Select Student loan interest on the Your Student Profile step, then click Continue until you get to the Student Loan Interest page.
4. Answer Yes when it asks you if you have eligible student loan interest if you are asked and click Continue.
5. Enter the amount of interest you paid on student loans in 2021. You can also enter the amount of interest you paid in any of the years below that you have not claimed.
