Yes this is a serious bug and deficiency in TT. I don't need TT to actually do the currency conversion but the imported T5008 should not toss away box 13, because then when I look at it in TT, there is nothing to tell me that the particular T5008 is in a foreign currency and it looks just like all my Canadian ones. I need to know which T5008's I have to edit to put in exchange rates to convert both the book value (which would have occurred at a different date and f/x than the proceeds value) and the proceeds value.
This bug has existed for years and should be fixed. Crazy that I spend on this s/w and an important issue like this is neglected. Probably next year I will switch to different s/w.

@Michael RL As per CRA, you should report all amounts in Canadian currency, unless the transaction meets the requirements explained as followed.
Foreign currency reporting
Complete all T5008 slips in Canadian currency. Use the exchange rate that was in effect at the time of the transaction or an average rate that includes the transaction period.
Foreign currency is usually converted to Canadian funds before it is credited to the recipient's account. However, certain taxpayers keep foreign currency accounts and choose to convert their account balances themselves. If you get proceeds of disposition in a foreign currency and deposit the amounts to your client's foreign currency account without converting them to Canadian funds, you can report in the foreign currency that applies. Identify foreign currency amounts by entering in box 13 the applicable currency code under international standard ISO 4217.
When you report amounts in foreign currency, keep the following in mind:
- print the name of the foreign currency on the T5008 slips (for example, U.S. DOLLARS) beside the Identification of securities text above the white box of Box 17 – Identification of securities for the recipient's benefit
- if you file your T5008 information return on paper and leave box 13 blank, we will process the amounts on the T5008 slips as Canadian dollars
- when completing the T5008 summary, you only have to enter one amount for total proceeds of disposition, whether or not you complete the T5008 slips in different currencies
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

This is total BS!
Turbo tax assume you can only have accounts in CAD. This is not the reality.
If you buy/sell, US stock in a canadian account the transaction (buy and sell) happens from the cash and is converted from the CDN$ at a certain rate.
But for a US account, no conversion occurs, the transaction happen from the US cash.
This is why the box 13 exist on the T5008, we need it,

This bug is doubly awful:
1) Ok, I understand if TuboTax's position is "you should do the conversion yourself if you enter the T5008 slip". That really sucks (and would cause me to look for different tax-filing software), but at least it's not dangerous.
2) BUT, a lot of people don't understand this nuance. They just "auto-import T5008 from CRA" and just assume its correct. Heck, I would assume it's correct based on Turbotax reputation, I'm lucky I bothered to check! But in reality they pay the wrong amount of tax (and most likely, they're UDERPAYING tax, basically they pay tax on $1000 CAD capital gain, when in actual fact their gain was $1000 USD = $1400 CAD).
Again, all this with the "auto-import" button, which people assume "just works"!
Auto-import should not introduce dangerous errors into your return, period. The support on this thread has been ridiculous, Intuit people just pretending the issue does not exist, posting irrelevant quotes from the CRA, without bothering to actually sit down with pen and paper and see what the issue is.
I will be looking for a way to report this directly to the CRA instead, clearly we're not getting support here since it hasn't been resolved for years. They should lose their NETFILE license over this, I am serious.

For this exact reason, I am not using TurboTax this year (2025 tax season)
Other tax software do import box #13 (currency code).
In one year my money manager generates a lot of transactions in my US account. There is no way, I am going to manage the purchase and sale price in a separate excel spreadsheet, and then edit and correct all imported transactions has TurboTax wants me to do!
This is definitely a Bug, even if Intuit doesn’t see it that way.
Their bad !

@EigenCat If the amounts on your T5008 are in USD, you will need to convert them to CAD before entering them into TurboTax. This is not a bug; that is how the program is designed. However, we understand your frustration, and your feedback has been noted and forwarded to the appropriate department. We appreciate your input!

No, I won’t need to manually convert them, because I changed my tax software this year!
I am pissed, I have to learn a new software, but I am glad I won’t have to convert hundreds of imported transactions.
Not a bug ? Well, this is a poor design choice to completely ignore a box (#13) that CRA put there exactly for that specific issue?
What is the purpose to buy a tax software if that software does half of the intended job ?
