I am trying to get my *.tt23 - so I can preload my 2045 return

Your help page says:

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year 2023 and Click on Download .tax file

I am at "start your return" on the web application - there is no "Your tax returns and Documents" in the Tax Home web page.

I had the Help Desk folks over the phone yesterday (Feb 25, 2025). The feature to import back the *.tt23 file into your laptop is currently NOT supported by Intuit.  The reverse is possible, though.  Last year, I mistakenly bought the online version and it did look for my *.tt22 files on my laptop.  This year, I went back to the laptop version of TurboTax and I can not retrieve my *.tt23 data - this is unacceptable.  Especially that that was no warning last year that I was walking into a one-way street while using the online version (!!).  BTW, I am in Quebec, CANADA

You can login to your TuboTax Online account and download the tax file, then upload it to TurboTax Desktop.

Refer to the TurboTax Help article How do I get a copy of the 2023 return I filed in TurboTax Online? for instructions.

I am looking to download a .tt23 file from my 2023 Turbotax Online Canadian Version in order to upload to the TurboTax download version for 2024.

The above suggestions are not available with my Canadian Turbotax Online Version.

Does anyone know if this is possible.  I contacted Intuit help by phone and they didn't have any solutions.

You can access you previous return by following these steps in TurboTax:

Sign in to your TurboTax account. Make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (same user ID) as in previous years.

There are two ways to get your prior-year returns:

  1. Select Documents from the menu, use the dropdown menu to choose the tax year you want, and select Download tax PDF.
  2. On Tax home, scroll down and select Your tax returns & documents. Select the year you want and select Download/print return (PDF).

If the year you're looking for isn't there, it might be in a different account. Go here to find all of your accounts. One of them should have the return you're looking for.

@rene475436 If you used TurboTax Desktop in 2023, then the .tt23 would be stored on your computer. Try looking in the TurboTax folder in your Documents folder or use Windows search to try to find them.

If you used TurboTax Online in 2023, TurboTax Online doesn't generate .ttxx files, as it's not based on the desktop software.

Please read more carefully, @TurboTaxSusan. We are clearly trying to export the previous year's online tax files to the desktop version, I.E. we need the .tt23 files, and that function simply does not seem to exist in the  Canadian version.

I have the same issue.  They could at least tell you up front it isn't possible. Really crappy support. Does anyone know of a decent alternative program?
