TurboTax generated a condensed pdf of my tax return for me to print & mail. How do I get the whole pdf?

The pdf is supposed to be 8 pages long but I only have 5 pages and there is a barcode on the first page. Why isn't turbotax generating the whole pdf for me? Also, I only see the Federal tax return in the pdf. Where can I find the Ontario tax return?

@shreyas7 Yes it is ok to send the condensed version as the barcode gives the Canada Revenue Agency everything they need from your return.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

You only get the condensed one if you clicked on Print to Mail. If you click on Print PDF then you should get the complete form.

Sorry, let me clarify my question:

I meant to ask whether it is ok to mail the condensed pdf?

I am able to get the whole pdf but that has a watermark on it stating "Do not send by mail".

Here are instructions on how to print your return without watermarks The option to print a tax return becomes visible only after you pay for that specific tax return. After you pay, the FILE menu lists the print options available to you. To print for the purpose of mailing to the CRA or save a copy for your own records for your current tax return, follow the directives provided below.

Two options for printing;

a) one is to print and mail to the CRA which will provide you with a PDF with no watermarks, or

b) you can skip the print & mail and click continue which will give you the option to print for your own records (with watermarks) before you Netfile.

After payment has been processed, in the side menu, select FILE, and then select Print & Mail your return to access the PDF without watermarks. On the next page that appears, select the link to open a PDF copy of your return, which will download to your computer automatically, open the PDF and click on Print, this will be the copy you would send to the CRA without the watermark on it. Hit Done – you will then be directed to download a copy with watermarks for your own records.

Thank you @TurboTaxGinette for replying. I have 2 follow-up questions:

1. Can you please confirm whether the condensed version would also include the provincial tax return?
2. Is there a way to get the non-condensed version without the watermark?

@guriraji , I think you are misunderstanding my questions.
1. Note that I did not have to pay for the product because my tax return was very simple.

2. "After payment has been processed, in the side menu, select FILE, and then select Print & Mail your return to access the PDF without watermarks. On the next page that appears, select the link to open a PDF copy of your return, which will download to your computer automatically, open the PDF and click on Print, this will be the copy you would send to the CRA without the watermark on it. Hit Done" <<<--- These instructions do not match the free edition of the product. They may work for the version that requires a payment. After selecting Print & Mail, the only PDF that I get is the condensed one with the barcode. If I want a copy for myself, that one has the watermark on it.

Yes as per the printing, that is how it works. You get one condensed copy to send which includes everything needed for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in the form T1KS computerized read form, including the provincial forms. As a second copy, it will have the watermark.

There is no way to print a copy of your taxes without the watermark after you've Netfiled.  (This system was created because according to the CRA, many people were apparently Netfiling and then sending in printed copies. This was causing problems at the assessment level.)

WORKAROUND:  Once you complete your taxes and before you Netfile them, print the non-condensed form without the watermark and then Netfile them (which is free to do).

Got it. Thank you for replying. This is helpful.

Unfortunately, as a newcomer to Canada, I cannot NETFILE it because my info isn't in the CRA system yet.

I will print the condensed pdf & send it via mail.

Hello, my condensed version for 2024 doesn't have a barcode. Is it still OK to submit like that? I'm not able to get the full version without watermarks. Thank you.

@mafeforero T1 Condensed is the concise version of the T1 General. It contains all the necessary information that the CRA requires (instead of showing and printing a lot of unnecessary forms and schedules)

Yes, that is the copy you submit to CRA. It will be a condensed copy (T1 General), not a complete PDF of your return for records.

So I printed out my return to mail.

Turbo Tax prints out a Tax Return Enclosures List.

On the Tax Return Enclosures Listit one of the items that it says should be included is a:

"T1-KFS - form that includes schedules and form"

I cannot find this form in the print out.

I cannot find this form in the program.

When I call the helpline, the person says they do not know what that form is and suggests printing out the whole tax return to submit, but when I go to do that there is a watermark saying don't submit.  The help person does not know how to print all the forms without the watermark.

When I Google the T1-KFS I get:

The T1 General – Condensed return is a 3-page abbreviated version of the computer-generated T1 General Return that includes Form T1-KFS, a new keying field summary form. The CRA has introduced this new return in order to reduce the number of pages to store in its files when a preparer prepares a paper return."

Not sure what to do.

Some comments sate that the barcode on the first page of the T1 is enough.  If that is true, Turbo Tax should not have on its  Tax Return Enclosures List the T1-KFS.

(Aside: I have to print and mail my return this year because TurboTax could not properly handle the T-1198 form)

Yes, you can mail the condensed T1 General, which has the barcode on it and usually a few more pages up to 8 pages depending on what you claimed, and add a printout of your T1198.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I've got the highest end turbo tax program and I'm trying to print the condensed  T1 general for my father in law who passed away which incluides the T1-KFS form which is required for a deceased person

.  There is no option on the turbo tax program that I can see - how do I get the condensed T1 form printed including the KFS form which CRA requires?

Hey Pete2

The frustrating thing with TurboTax is the program says you need a T1-KFS, but when l talked to a TurboTax person they didn't know what the form was.  So I posted in the community message board and the advice from TurboTax was I didn't need the form.

When I Googled the form it talks about the form being a keying guide CRA uses in processing the tax form.  It seems the barcode on the first page of the T1 acts as the keying guide.

This is just my interpretation based on what I found out.

@pete2  When you go to file the return you should get an option to print & mail instead of NETFILE.

@Rod46 The T1-KFS (Keying Field Summary) is usually the 3rd page of the condensed version of the return.

OK so the name of the form TurboTAx says I need is not the name of the form but the header on top of the form.

You should be more precise .
