Note: As of tax year 2020, TurboTax refers to the installation key as a licence code for TurboTax Download and as an activation code for TurboTax Online.
Your licence code is 16 letters and numbers grouped into four segments. Before you begin troubleshooting, check to make sure you entered the correct licence code.
Example: A2XC-BEGH-U2D2-JRPL
If you enter your licence code and receive the message The licence code you entered is not valid. Error code: 607, you may have entered an incorrect code.

2019 and prior years
Your installation key is 21 digits grouped into six segments, with each segment alternating between three- and four-digit groupings.
Example: 123-4567-891-0111-213-1415
Most installation key issues can be resolved by carefully double-checking and reentering the key. If you see the Help with Installation Key screen after entering your key information, you may have entered the information incorrectly. To resolve this problem:
- On the Help with Installation Key screen, select Back.
- Delete all the numbers in the installation key boxes.
- Select the first box and enter the first set of digits from your installation key.
- Continue through the rest of the boxes until you've entered all the digits, and then select Next.
