How do I change the amount of tuition credits used on the turbotax form? The system is automatically inputting my entire credit amount unnecessarily.

TurboTax automatically calculates the maximum amount you can claim and subtracts it from your tax balance owing.

This is a Canada Revenue Agency(CRA) rule that has been in place for many years. You have to use any of the tuition amounts this year to reduce your tax payable, they will be applied to your return automatically by CRA, even if you attempt to carry them forward.

TurboTax will apply the needed amount to reduce your tax payable to zero this year and carry forward any excess to future years. Then CRA will automatically apply as needed. If you can use all your credits in a particular tax year, you are required to do so. You cannot spread them out over a number of years or wait to claim them.

Thanks for your reply.

I understand what you are saying however, it is not necessary for me to carry forward ANY of my tuition credits as my income is low enough where I do not need it.  Despite this, the system is automatically using up 43,000 worth of credits unnecessarily.  As we know, once this is used up wether needed or not, that credit is lost forever.  In previous years I had filed manually and was able to carry forward my entire amount and this was accepted by CRA without issue.  So, my question is, how can I carry forward my entire tuition credit within the TurboTax system?
