My employer pays half and I pay half of my health insurance plan every month. Can I claim the portion that i pay every year on my tax return. If yes where can I claim it.

I believe it’s suppose to be on my T4 but never has been in previous years.

We appreciate you choosing TurboTax,

A private health insurance premium paid by an employee is considered a qualifying medical expense that can be claimed by the employee on their income tax return.

Add the amounts that you, the employee, paid on the T4 slip under code 85 in the "Other information" area. It is optional to use code 85. If you do not have the information on a T4 slip, keep your totaled amounts and receipts to be able to prove the amounts you paid in the event of a CRA audit. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) may ask the employee to provide supporting documents if code 85 is not entered.

Please view our TurboTax video for directions. How do I enter my medical expenses?
