To qualify for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), you must have a certified Form T2201 (DTC application) on file with the CRA. Otherwise, the CRA will reject your claim.

If you’re eligible, TurboTax will calculate the credit and automatically apply it to your balance, which helps reduce how much you owe.

To claim the DTC, first complete the personal info profile and the tax profile info in TurboTax, then follow these steps:

  • If using TurboTax:

    • Online edition, at 2024 tax return, use the search bar under Add to your return

    • Desktop edition, select Find from the menu.

  • Enter disability in the search bar from the menu.

  • Select Disability Amount. If using TurboTax Desktop, select Go.

  • At Disability Amount, answer all the questions, then select Continue.

  • Repeat the steps for any additional claims.
