For the 2019 tax season, the filing deadline has been extended to June 1, 2020. Before midnight, you must submit your return to NETFILE or have your paper return postmarked.
If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, the CRA considers your return to be filed on time, or your payment to be paid on time, if they receive it or if it is postmarked on the next business day.
If you are mailing your return and you have a balance owing, include a cheque or money order made out to the Receiver General for the amount due with your return. Taxpayers will have until September 1, 2020 to pay any 2019 income tax amounts owed.
If you are using NETFILE and you have a balance owing, you can make your payment:
- using your bank's Internet or telephone banking services;
- using the CRA's electronic payment options (My Payment or My Account);
- in person at your bank;
- by mailing a cheque or money order made out to the Receiver General, along with a completed remittance form T7DR(A) (included in your tax package).
