Other income: what is it and why does it appears on my income summary page in TurboTax online?

Other income contains taxable income not included in any other categories.

Common sources of other income include:

  • Tips or gratuities
  • Certain wage-replacement plan income
  • Retiring allowances
  • Lump-sum payments
  • Death benefits
  • Payments from a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)

(TurboTax reports these amounts on Line 13000 of your T1 return.)

In TurboTax Online, amounts in any of the boxes of the slips listed here are displayed on the Other income line of Here's your income summary page:

  • T4A slip: Box 18, 24, 28, 30, 40, 42, 106, 109, 117, 123, 125, 129, 130, 134, 136, 150, 154, 194
  • T3 slip: Box 22, 26
  • T4RIF slip: Box 16, 20, 22
  • T4 slip: Box 66, 67

Note: In tax year 2018 and earlier, scholarships and bursaries (for example, amount reported in Box 105 of the T4A) were part of Other Income. Starting tax year 2019, these amounts have been removed from Other Income and are reported separately on Line 13010 of your T1 return.
