Where do I claim my employment expenses in TurboTax Desktop?

SOLVEDby TurboTax45Updated January 03, 2024

To claim expenses on your return, choose the scenario that applies to you, then complete the listed instructions.

  1. Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the TurboTax menu.
  2. In the Find window, type employment.
  3. Select Employment Expenses from the list of results, then select Go.

Note: After tax year 2022, to claim this deduction (line 22900 of your tax return), your expenses must be incurred as a condition of employment. You must have a signed T2200 from your employer showing the conditions of your employment. Don’t file the T2200 with your return but do keep a copy for your records.

  1. Select Find from the TurboTax menu.
  2. In the Find window, type business.
  3. Select Business profile from the list of results, then select Go.
  1. Select Find from the TurboTax menu.
  2. In the Find window, type self-employment.
  3. Select it from the list of results, then select Go.

Note: Ensure you have receipts for all expenses claimed (for example, for gas and repairs). The CRA may ask you to provide them to prove your claims.
